Advocacy in the UK
The first formal advocacy scheme in the UK was set up in
1981 by an alliance of several charities concerned with people with
learning difficulties or mental health problems.
This has grown into a movement, which is made up of many different
types of advocacy projects, made up of people from all walks of
life, but sharing the same goal of improving the lives of those
who are marginalized, vulnerable and/or disadvantaged in society,
and who would otherwise not have a voice.
